Meet Harper from Seams Couture! March 18, 2014 11:16

We could not be more excited for this weekend's wedding event, LoveCraft: Your Handmade Wedding Marketplace. This event would not be happening if not for the vision and help of Harper Della-Piana, the designer and maker from Seams Couture. It was Harper who first presented the idea to Devienna, and the ball got rolling. I caught up with Harper to learn more about the event, and what you can all expect this weekend.

Where did the idea come from to do a handmade wedding event at Craftland?
Craftland seemed like the perfect place for this show, since many of the artists involved already do Wedding related items. Showcasing that specifically seemed logical, also an opportunity for us to show our higher end and customizable products that aren't usually part of the Craftland and Holiday collections. Many of us have Etsy shops and here you'll have the ability to see, feel, and try on the products in person!

What kinds of products can we expect to see?
Handmade and Made in RI dresses, Bridal accessories, Groom's accessories, fine wedding jewelry, Bridesmaid dresses and gifts, letterpress invitations and other necessary paper goods, cake toppers, ceramics, food and wine, flowers, and photography!  It'll be a lot of fun too!

How is this event different from the typical wedding show?
The usual Wedding Expo is a place to meet Vendors and see what they have to offer, it's a place to gather information for planning and rarely, if ever, to shop. At LoveCraft you'll be able to impulse buy, and order custom pieces on the spot, or just make appointments with Vendors for their services.

Tell us about your line of wedding gowns.
Seams Couture produces a limited amount of couture sample gowns every year to show our clients and they are available for purchase or to order in other colors and to measure, as well as the Custom Design service where a gown goes from sketch to muslin to hand finish and no two are alike. The ready-to-wear line, the Wrapture Collection, is a lower priced silk dress for Brides, Maids, and made to be a re-wearable dress to keep in your closet after the event. The Etsy shop SEAMS has accessories like jackets, boleros, capes, neckties and pocket squares that can be made in many silk colors, and due to popular request we're about to offer Monogramming! Oh and yes, we will have a discontinued SALE rack at LoveCraft :)

What's your favorite part of working with couples on their wedding?
The best part of working directly with Brides is that their visions are always new, creative, and completely different from anyone else's!  Sometimes the hardest part is narrowing down all the millions of inspirations into one cohesive gown, and the most fun is to watch it come to life.  What could be better than a job where it's all about making people happy?
